Uganda defeated Cape Verde to gain 2-1 record in 2021 AfroBasket Qualifiers Group E. Ishmail Wainright (196-G/F-94, college: Baylor) knocked down 36 points and grabbed 13 rebounds to pace the winners.
Uganda eked out a 26-25 lead at the first break. They extended the lead throughout the second frame. Uganda ensured a 52-43 halftime lead. Cape Verde dropped 33 points in the third term to surge ahead. But Uganda managed to pave their way to the win. They exploded with 27 points in the final period to snatch a narrow tough win. Jimmy Enabu (187-PG-88) and Deng Geu (203-PF-97, college: N.Texas) provided 17 points each for Uganda. Joel Almeida (195-F-85, college: Brockport St.) answered with 24 points for Cape Verde.
